Volcanic hikes are a key part of The Fit Retreat experience. Fuerteventura has some of the most magnificent walks/hikes all over the Island with walking paths taking you from North to South. I could tell you about so many different routes to enjoy here on the island, but for today I want to share with you our three favourite volcano hikes!

Below you can find  a little sneaky peak of what our Fit Retreat guests can expect when we go exploring! We really believe getting outside in the fresh air and enjoying nature is the best way to stay active and keep fit ... half the time you don't even realise you're working out! All of the hikes we do during your stay are suitable for different fitness levels, so everyone can take their time, work at their own pace and enjoy the incredible scenery the island has to offer!

Montaña Escanfraga.

hikes in fuerteventura

Located in the traditional village of Villeverde, Montana Escanfraga is the most challenging of our three volcano hikes, but with that you will experience the most rewarding feeling of achievement, it will be completely worth it.

We have a slightly different trail, that other hikers might not take. We approach Escanfraga from the north side and hike up it in a rock stair way. We guide our guests slowly but safely up the rocky ravine until we reach the first peak. We will then take a minute to take in the stunning views and then make our way to the final climb to the next peak. Astounding views over Corralejo, Lobos, Lanzarote, the dunes, Mount Tindaya and you can see the villages of Villaverde, La Oliva, Lajares and El Cotillo, as well as thousands of old terrace agricultural fields, The views reach as far as the mountains in the middle of the island. Simply breathtaking.

Island of Lobos & Montaña Caldera

hikes in fuerteventura

We will take you over by speed boat over to the beautiful Lobos island, where we will do some exploring and have time to sunbathe on the beautiful beaches that Lobos have to offer.

Lobos Island, known to the locals as Wolves Island, was named for the large number of sea wolves, also called monk seals, that once lived there. Lobos boasts desert and a volcanic landscape, wonderful views of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, a very small village where the local come to fiesta and sheltered sea lagoons. A perfect day out.

Montaña La Caldera (The Cauldron Mountain) at 127m is the highest point of the island. This is the volcano which we will be hiking. This isn't the most challenging of our hikes but it is absolutely worth every step to the top. Views of Lobos as well as the other islands, this will truly be a fantastic photo opportunity.

After finishing our walk we will give you some free time. Either to carry on exploring the island or relax by the lagoons, your choice. We will have a meeting point so we can be ready for the thrilling speed boat journey back to Fuerteventura.

Lajares Volcano - Calderon Hondo

hikes in fuerteventura

This particular hike is literally on your door step. A 5 minute walk from the retreat and you will be at the bottom of the Calderon Hondo trail. We are actually going to do this as one of our morning workouts, but we will be leaving the equipment at home and be getting involved in some walking, hiking, jogging, climbing and don't forget feeding the chipmunks... :)

We will go up to what we like to call 'diamond dash point' (all will be revealed!) which is the first peak of the two summit volcano. We will then either climb the second peak or we will take the other route around the volcano and then up to the crater point where the chipmunks like to come and say hello! The Calderon Hondo is one of the best preserved and has a crater 70 meters deep.

We will then make our way around the other side of the volcano and this will lead on the path back to the retreat where you can, cool off and laze around the pool.

We are so excited about taking our guests to these unbelievable places and like I said at the beginning of this blog. We are truly lucky to have this on our doorstep. The great outdoors, you can't beat it so why don't you come and experience it here at The Fit retreat !
